Synod of Pentecostal Churches

(Unity among Pentecostals)

The leaders of the Pentecostal churches of Karnataka had met for several times in hopes of developing a united forum for Pentecostal community in the state of Karnataka.

Soon thereafter, the leaders acknowledged the need for a united forum and acted upon it, understanding the history and the present challenges are both critical to decisions about where we wish to go in the future and in order to organize our community across Karnataka the term “SYNOD” (Conclave, Meeting of Leaders, Convocation, Assembly, Session, Tribunal, Council) was selected.

The Purpose of the Synod

(The Synod as a Unity builder)

There is a vast challenge to see the unity and the urgency to do something about it and our current infrastructure is unable to carry the weight of a sustainable body, a new structure was formed (Executive Body, Diocesan council and a Taluk Council).

Two principles seem paramount to understand our Pentecostal Churches in terms of its global influence. Both principles are vital for our vision and mission.

First, our ministry as Pentecostal churches is to express the unity and love of Christ. Such commitment can only prevail over all the oppositions.
Second, we need insight. Pentecostal churches are a fast growing churches and a new, flexible, adoptable structure is needed.

Our history is connected to our calling. The call is to find the most effective, grace filled ways in our unique circumstances to preach Christ and to serve His body. Our calling as Pentecostals is to find the best ways to respond and give witness to our faith.

The most powerful paradigm shift the church has undergone recently in many countries is the realization that the foundation for progress is unity.

Christianity taught men love, unity. Our service to the downtrodden, poor and needy has built bondage of unity. The fact that the Pentecostal Churches have contributed positively to unity building.

The synod's primary objective is to stirring up a spirit of co-operation to come over the Pentecostal Churches. It can not deviate at any cost from this commitment. The pursuit of God's purpose is more vital than the preservation of our rights.

The chief aim of the synod is to create biblical unity through serventhood, humility and love. That is, considering others better than ourselves, not to look in to our own interests, but also to the interests of others, do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit and be like-minded having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

The Mechanism for Unity Building

The synod will trace the disunity to its source, identify the small groups where the division originates and deal with it at the level. it will expand all of its energy to create, keep and promote unity among different level expressions of the Pentecostal Churches.

Conclusion

The Synod is taking necessary steps in order to provide the best leadership to each district, where the Taluk Councils can function well under them. It is vital to understand the right concept and the purpose of the Synod to avoid as well as to insulate confusions and the effects of the confusions. The Synod of the Pentecostal Churches is a registered body of the Pentecostal leaders to function with a clear objectives, Guidelines and proper leadership structure.

The leadership structure can be explained as the Apostolic Council

(This is consists of the most senior leaders of the Pentecostal Churches)

1. The Advisory Council
3. The Governing Body
2. The Diocesan Council
4. The Taluk Councils

The Structure is subject to change according to the need and growth of the Synod. Various departments have also been appointed to meet the needs of the Dioceses of the Synod. The State co-ordinators and Joint co-ordinators have been also appointed to carry out the activities of the Synod effectively.

The Districts of the Karnataka have been divided and the Joint Secretaries of the Synod have been given responsibilities as overseers to give necessary attention to all dioceses activities and to provide result oriented leadership to each diocese.

The Synod is created to unite all the Pentecostal Churches, Organizations and Para-church organizations and to make one body of the Pentecostal community. The synod has very clear objectives and the Guidelines have been provided to all Dioceses to function effectively.
